Creates a span whose inner text the reveal can reach.

children is what actually renders — normally the single widget span the block was already built as. Wrapping a span rather than a widget keeps this usable for constructs that build their own span (a block quote carries its bar and inset in one) without a paragraph nested inside a paragraph to hold it.
